Lives In The Back Cove

I'm originally from midcoast Maine, and after having lived in NYC and California, landed here with my wife in 2011. I absolutely adore this town; am simply awestruck the sheer variety of creative dining options, the strong community of difference makers, and the raw beauty of the landscape. Portland is a haven for my family and we can't help but see ourselves here for a very long time.

By day I run DriveUX, a small design consultancy that helps people plan and create meaningful web applications. I work with teams in town and all over the globe. The age that we are in is truly amazing. I'm blessed I can live in a vacationers paradise while being part of the knowledge workforce.

Once a month, at 7PM, I host a design meetup: Maine UX.

In my spare time I like to build things out of wood, run with my dog Niko around the bay, and plan entrepreneurial projects. My friends and I often plot the next big idea while surrounded by Sunday brunch.

In the summer I play baseball on a sandlot team in town. There's nothing like the crack of a wooden bat hitting the ball.. it makes me feel like a kid!

Why did you choose Portland? This town has everything! Just enough city, just enough country, inspired culinary destinations, beautiful beaches, great schools, convenient airport, classic architecture, passionate and brilliant people, and fantastic art and music.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? I enjoy having guests at our place! So much so that I created a guidebook loaded with hot spots and tasty eateries. Whenever I travel I appreciate checking out the local haunts, so I'm happy to reciprocate.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? I love sitting on the deck at The Portland Lobster Company (PoLoCo) on a summer night with friends, listening to a local band, drinking Allagash.

What's the most surprising thing about this city? I think the depth of technology talent in this town is pretty surprising. Coupled with the industrious and pioneering spirit that is Maine's DNA: Portland is primed for big things!

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? I think the commitment to a work-life balance is sort of the unsung hero for many Portlanders.
