Jon Petruschke

I write fiction, short stories, and poetry. Lately, it's mostly haiku inspired by what I dream about at night.

Job Writer, Program Coordinator at Shalom House Inc.

Lives In Munjoy Hill

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I hold a BA in psychology from Pennsylvania State University and an MSS from Bryn Mawr College’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Upon the completion of my graduate studies, and at the coaxing of my wife, Jasa, who is from Winslow, ME, we relocated from Philly to Portland with our two cats in 2002. The four of us have lived happily on cozy, vibrant Munjoy Hill ever since. Shortly after the move, I founded a Portland-based writing group that is now in its twelfth year.

My weekdays are spent working at Shalom House Inc., where I supervise a team of case managers who assist adults with severe mental illness in and around Portland. My other hours are spent writing, snowshoeing, lounging on a blanket and reading on the Eastern Prom, swimming at Ferry Beach, savoring live music, and enjoying whatever the newest restaurant is in Portland.
