Lives In Falmouth

In 2009 I walked into Whole Foods Market in Portland with a prototype of an all-natural bath product I created from scratch. My son strapped on my back just a year old, I walked in unannounced with a new product, branded with my design skills, made with my own custom recipe. I went in a single Mom and came out a sole proprietor. In one meeting I walked out with positive feedback about my product and a green light to submit and hold space on their shelves to sell.  I've been on their shelves ever since. How cool is that? Maine and the City of Portland is exremely supportive of entrepreneuers. I am so thankful that I live in Maine and better yet, now just two minutes from the Old Port where connections, networking and culture are so available. As an eco-friendly, mindful human and fine artist, I am excited to share my personal artwork in the First Friday Art Walks with my recycled, hand-painted lobster buoys that wash up on our shores near Sturdivant Island. I wear many hats as a sole proprietor and entrepreneur and that could mean any given day I am cleaning houses, landscaping, selling my art, or fulfilling my wholesale orders throughout New England. I am proud to make my own schedule to make my working days what I want them to be. I am available to my son and I am a present Mother because of the work that I do. New to Falmouth in 2013, I am excited to be so close to the culture, art and music scene and especially some good sushi in the Portland area.

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? I admire Portlanders because they are people who have ideas and make them happen. They weather through the storm and don't give up. They make life work by doing what they are passionate about. Portlanders are resourceful. They are friendly. You can walk up to a Portlander to ask them for directions and you may very well end up drinking coffee with them with some pretty interesting conversation thereafter.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? I get down and dirty with out-of-towners. I hand them a pair of muck boots and head out to the waterfront or a local island via ferry to muck about on the shores, find treasures on the beach or maybe take them to explore a local Island. After all that mucking about, we always make sure to treat our guests with a trip to The Holy Donut after for a Maine Potato Donut!

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Sushi is the best here in Portland. I love Benkay and Yosaku, they are my two favorites! We have many choices to dabble in. The local Seafood markets are the best with fresh local catch from our own shores.

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. A perfect night in Portland is taking a hard days work and turning it into a jaunt into the Old Port and a sauntering about the cobble stone streets looking for your next new wine bar or craft beer. Getting a nice glass of wine at Novare Res was my latest trip into town in the Old Port, maybe a bite to eat made with local provisions. In the morning there's nothing better than a simple hot cup of local joe and a trip to the waterfront to watch the sun rise. A simple and perfect way to end and start another day.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? I bump into good people always at the Portland Food Coop. Always mindful people in there I run in to.
