Curator’s Note:

For many years I have been inspired by shaped work, on and off the wall - particular- ly through work that is on the wall, because of the way it presents itself without being sculpture. I also feel that the materials used for bas-relief work are often more inventive than those used in sculpture, which are typi- cally wood, metal, concrete, or stone.
“Shaped/On the Wall” includes a diverse group of materials: clay, wood, fabric, fiber, painted felt, stitching, painted wood, rubber, paint, and fresco. There is something about shaped work that asks the viewer and the maker to reconsider their ideas around per- spective and illusion.
