All Maine residents recognize the term 'shoulder season' - the between-times marked by changing light, fluctuating temperature, and a slower pace. Taking inspiration from these times of flux, when our awareness of such changes in the landscape is most heightened, students will develop three paintings exploring temperature within the landscape. Through a combined use of subject, light, and color, we'll practice conveying heat and cold, as well as how to balance warm and cool elements within a single composition. By focusing on temperature as a key element of painting, students will expand their ability to capture the full sensory experience of a landscape - not just how it looks, but how it feels.
