Mayo Street Arts' semi-annual slam, King Friday’s Dungeon, features new puppet works and puppet works in progress in an after-hours, puppet-roadhouse atmosphere. Each slam consists of 8-10 puppet skits that dance outside of the family-friendly mainstream puppetry circuit.

The evening’s performances will be presented by guest emcees from Stop Puppeting Yourself Puppet Co., a local ensemble that has made regular slam appearances. Stop Puppeting Yourself recently performed in the Puppets in Portland festival after premiering John Toot and the Great Metastization at MSA this spring.

Live music and foley accompaniment will be provided by The Ideal Maine Social Aid and Sanctuary Band, a Portland-based community activist band in the New Orleans street band tradition that embraces a broad range of diverse music. The Ideal Maine Band supports progressive movements and believes that through music and song, we can fight apathy and work together toward peace and social justice for all.
