Brighten fall evenings while exploring the expressive potential of color in drawing! In this course, students will develop their skills by working from three floral still life arrangements - an inspiring subject full of dynamic form and rich color. Using dry color media such as colored pencil or chalk pastel, students will complete three drawings over the duration of the course, spending two sessions on each piece. Work will begin with direct observation and continue with the support of reference images captured from the original arrangements. Emphasis will be placed on layering color and understanding the relationship between color and value, resulting in drawings that feel cohesive and confident. This course will focus on a combination of life drawing and working from reference images, and developing techniques for drawing with color media (colored pencil or chalk pastels). Students will be encouraged to work representationally, while leaving room for plenty of style and expression.
