As the nation immerses itself in the fanfare of the Semiquincentennial in 2026, this new exhibition looks to reflect upon another major national milestone — the Centennial.

Celebrating a Century: Maine's Contributions to the 1876 Centennial Exposition will explore the state's participation in the first World's Fair on American soil, held in conjunction with the nation's 100th birthday. Maine businesses and individuals exhibited their goods and the state's natural resources — from canned food and textiles to slate and iron ore — proudly signifying to the fair's millions of visitors its growing industrial capabilities and knack for Yankee ingenuity.

Celebrating a Century highlights the stories and artifacts of numerous businesses that displayed their products and a remarkable speech delivered by Joshua Chamberlain on Maine's history.
