The final concert of the 2023 Bach Virtuosi Festival will conclude with a Celebration. It will feature J.S. Bach's ambitious Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 in F Major, BWV 1046, three arias by G.F. Handel (Va tacito from Giulio Cesare, HWV 17; As steals the morn from L'allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, HWV 55; and Sorge infausta una procella from Orlando, HWV 31), and J.S. Bach's Cantata 140 (Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140). Cantata 140 will be conducted by Lewis Kaplan, who will celebrate his 90th birthday later this year, and feature soprano Sherezade Panthaki, tenor Brian Giebler, and bass-baritone Paul Max Tipton. Additional musicians include a four-person vocal ensemble, and musicians from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Portland Symphony Orchestra, and a full orchestra.
