In collaboration with the Portland Museum of Art this course explores the prints in the Winslow Homer: Painter, Etcher show, offering the chance to learn the same processes used to make these exceptional pieces. With MECA&D graduate and former curatorial intern at the PMA, Winslow Trainum, students will learn hardground and aquatint etching. By the end of the course students will have made their own copper etching plates, a printed edition, as well as an exchange portfolio where each student will share their prints with one another. In the first class a preliminary visit to the PMA will be held, led by Winslow. Throughout the course Winslow will also give insight into their time as an intern on the Homer show sharing knowledge on the history of Homer and his prints. This course offers the exciting chance to combine art historical teaching with a hands-on adventure into the print processes used by Winslow Homer.
