Lives In South Portland

Virginia Rose grew up in Manchester, NH, and received a BFA from the University of New Hampshire in 1996.  She moved to New York City in 1998, to complete a Master’s Degree in Art History at Queens College. Virginia managed two art galleries in Manhattan, Schmidt Bingham and DFN Gallery, and opened her own space, AVC Contemporary, in 2002. Virginia moved to Portland, Maine, in 2005, and was director of a prominent local art gallery for three years, while teaching Art History as an adjunct professor at area colleges.  Virginia administrated the First Friday Art Walk from 2006 to 2007, and for five years served on the board of the Portland Arts & Cultural Alliance, which merged with Creative Portland, and the Portland Public Art Committee.  Virginia started Rose Contemporary, a fine art gallery on Congress Street, in 2011.  She is also a full time instructor in Art History at Southern Maine Community College.  She lives in the Willard Beach area with her husband, Aaron and their 2-year old son.

Why did you choose Portland? Great art scene, great food! Beautiful location on the ocean with a cosmopolitan feel.
