Sam Mateosian is co-founder and head of product development for Big Room Studios, a creative technology company that provides brand, design, lean startup consulting and agile application development services. Sam is also papa smurf of Hack Portland, a group of hackers, makers, artists, programmers and inventors working to change the world one roll of duct-tape at a time. Sam really likes gin, neon, TED talks and short walks around the neighborhood.

Why did you choose Portland? I'm from Maine and was visiting high school friends here during my senior year of college. It was a feeling more than anything else. Just walking down the street I could sense the potential of the place and thought, yeah, I could live here, this would be fun. And I was right.

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? Anyone here who has started and runs a business in Portland - it takes blood, sweat and tears.
