Job Dance Educator / Avant Dance and Event Center
Lives In South Portland
I have been dancing my entire life and now in my 40's am living my dream of running a dance studio and performing. I manage Avant Dance and Event Center in Westbrook where I teach Zumba, Tap and Hip-Hop. I am the director/choreographer of G-Tric dance Crew, voted Portland Phoenix Best Dance Performer 2014. I am a long-time Michael Jackson fan and last year I organized and choreographed a zombie flash mob to "Thriller," which involved over 40 dancers and took place in Monument Square the week of Halloween. This is going to be an annual event so if you're visiting Portland the week of Halloween, you might just stumble upon our zombies when you least expect it!
Why did you choose Portland? I wanted out of Augusta. and Portland was the most happening place that was still close to home and family.
Who are Portlanders you admire and why? Ethan Strimling ... for his political views and his dimples. Rob Caldwell, for basically the same reasons as Ethan.
What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Old Port!
Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Olive Café, Coffee By Design, any part of Exchange Street.
What's the most surprising thing about this city? Portland is super hip... so nothing really surprises me. It's a mecca for artists, foodies, and performers so it's constantly evolving.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? That would have to be food.... so many great restaurants so a night out at any one is an indulgence for me.
What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? The working waterfront.
Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Okay: App's and drinks at 555, dinner at Vignola, dancing at Styxx, cab ride home, (ABC Taxi of course) then bike across the bridge and hit up breakfast at Becky's. Boom.
Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? First Friday!
