Lives In Greater Portland
I am one of the people that always comes home.
Like most people born here, there's a gravitational pull that keeps me here. It's where I thrive. I love to travel, mostly on foot. My saunterings have led me to 48 states and many countries. I've put nearly 10,000 miles on my feet, yet the path always leads me back to Portland.
Creativity is in the air here. And in my blood. I can write here like noplace else. Maybe every writer does better work in their own backyard. But nothing gets me inspired and motivated like a nice long walk around my home town.
Why did you choose Portland? It's my home.
Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? The Western Prom. I love watching the sun go down behind Mount Washington. It's really special to sit on the grass and marvel at the changing sky with other Portlanders who are taking in the scene with the same sense of wonder and gratitude.
What's the most surprising thing about this city? The cultural backbone of Portland is incredible. I can't think of any city in the world that supports the arts like we do.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? A lobster roll. I haven't found a single restaurant that can emulate my mom's lobster roll - even in Portland! But I'm still on the hunt.
What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? The public restrooms in the Fore Street Parking Garage. (Please, people. Keep 'em clean.)
