Lives In Limington
I design and make screenprinted and block-printed greeting cards, organic canvas bags, scarves (and lots of other stuff) in my studio in Limington, Maine. I'm inspired by living in the midst of forests and farmland, by my grandmother's collection of folk-art books, vintage ephemera, geometry and fantasy, traveling near and far, jasmine green tea, and all of my amazing, creative friends and families.
I grew up on a little farm in Maine, moved to New York to study at Parsons and stayed in New York working in design for ten years before moving to Buenos Aires, Argentina for four years. In 2010 I returned to Maine with my partner Mike and started renovating an abandoned farmhouse in Limington, where we now live and work along with a very energetic dog named Laika and a tiny, happy cat named Kitten.
Why did you choose Portland? I grew up 30 minutes outside of Portland and during the years I lived out-of-state, I was always impressed to come home and visit Portland, seeing it transform over time into an exciting little city filled with excellent food and art and design and music and energy. It's a small enough community that it doesn't take long to recognize lots of familiar faces around town.
What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Brunch at Local 188, wandering and shopping on Congress Street, strolling (with or without picnic) on the Eastern Prom, coffee at Tandem, Portland Museum of Art, ferry to Peaks Island, beaching at Pine Point, lobster rolls at Two Lights, obligatory visit to LL Bean, scenic drive (with or without hiking) in the White Mountains.
Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? The Merchant Co, 656 Congress Street. It's a great place filled with interesting and beautiful things and I sell my work there, so every time I'm downtown I stop in to re-stock and rearrange my goods, which always puts me in a nice mood.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Holy Donuts! 194 Park Ave. Also Mount Desert Ice Cream on Exchange Street.
Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Not sure about perfect, but lots of good nights out in Portland involve a few friends, a few beers at Novare Res, hot noodles at Pai Men or a few slices of pizza at Otto and music at Space Gallery.
