I love drawing comics and spilling ink all over my hands!

Job Illustrator / Maine College of Art

Lives In Arts District

I'm an Illustrator from the Maine College of Art. I come from the southern sleepy hamlet of Portsmouth, N.H. My passion is in creating comic books and drawing with ink. Portland reminds me of my hometown in all the right ways. Add a vibrant and supportive art community to the mix, and you've got one wicked good city.

My art tends to be a mix of cute characters and obsessive attention to detailed penwork. I'm excited to watch Portland's burgeoning comic book scene grow. With great events like MECAF and Coast City Comicon, there's a reason for comic fans to flock to Portland.

Why did you choose Portland? I fell in love with the Maine College of Art campus, which prompted my going there. After a while, I learned that Portland is teaming with incredible restaurants, and swell folks. What's not to like?

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? The Staff of Maine College of Art are all really swell folks! Michael Connor got me into the whole comics mess, and creates some darn fine comics himself. Check out "Coelacanthus" and his other wonderful works at Strange Maine!

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? I'm always sure to bring visiting friends and family to the Portland Public Market for lunch. Afterwards it's a trip to either Coast City or Casablanca Comics, and a visit to the Old Port for a treat.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? The Speckled Axe is a great place to sit down, drink coffee, and look like an artsy type. It's a good way to wind down.

What's the most surprising thing about this city? The comic book scene. The city is home to a fare share of talented comic book artists. There are also plenty of local businesses and events that cater to comic book fans and artists.

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? A frozen yogurt at GoBerry. I always go for nutella yogurt with chocolate sprinkles. I'm proud and a little ashamed when my frequent buyer cards fill up.

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? All the old architecture, probably. Almost every building in Portland was re-purposed from something else. You get some pretty neat building interiors, that way.

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Drawing all night, and having a big breakfast at Becky's. Specifically, inking the last page of a comic and passing out. It's the best way to spend the night.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? Right in front of Monument square. It's the most common "bump into people" spot.
