In my day job, I work for the Portland Symphony Orchestra in Maine and have since 2008. As the PSO’s general manager, I supervise the operations department, oversee orchestra management, and work closely with the music director to plan the artistic season. Through all of this, you can find me with my over-sized camera bag by my side.
I am completely fascinated by everyday life, and I find that if I take time to refocus—to see rather than just look—beautiful, interesting, and challenging photographs are everywhere waiting to be created.
I love to travel, hike, eat, and laugh.
Why did you choose Portland? I moved here because of my job at the Portland Symphony Orchestra
What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Go to Mackworth Island, Bradbury Mountain, wandering the shops on Exchange Street, Deering Oaks Farmers' Market
Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? The Western & Eastern promenades.
What's the most surprising thing about this city? The more I learn about Portland, the more awesome it becomes. Portland has slowly unfolded itself to me. It seems to be constantly becoming more artistic, more musical, and more talented.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Brown butter lobster roll at Eventide, the bacon and cheddar donut at the Holy Donut, or the Lost Bread at Caiolas
What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? The outdoor restaurant at the Regency with the umbrellas!
Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Going to see a concert at one of Portland's incredible venues (State, PortCity, Merrill, One Longfellow), and then going to Pai Men Miyake and ordering the hamayaki. Next morning, walking to Local 188 or Hot Suppa for brunch, an then talking a walk around the Eastern prom or the bay!
