My life is broken up into snack time and other. What happens in between snacks is a mix of developing communication strategies for our local treasure trove of art delightfulness (the Portland Museum of Art), spending too much time color coding my to-do list, and managing design projects for a talented team of dedicated art lovers.
Why did you choose Portland? A friend once said to me, "You know, everyone I know from Maine always goes back." So, here I am. Proving him right. But in all honesty--why would I not choose Portland? The energy of the creative community, the proximity to ocean AND mountains, the food (oh gosh, the food), and it's all in the most beautiful state in the country. It's like Portlanders (and Mainers in general) know a secret the rest of the world isn't privy too.
Who are Portlanders you admire and why? Everyone I meet. In all seriousness. From Mark Bessire (PMA Director/arts visionary/most energetic person on earth) and Anne Buckwalter (artist/just Google her) to Bob & Laura Ker (owners of Find) and the folks at More & Co. (design geniuses). If you stop someone on the street, I bet you $5 they have talent coming out of their ears.
What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Most people from away want to see things like Portland Head Light, but I always bring them to the lesser known Bug Light. It's so cute! And, if you really like the person, grab a sandwich from 158 before you go. I realize none of that is in Portland proper. But it's only 5 minutes away! In Portland, it's mandatory to walk around. The fun little nooks and crannies with random shops are the best ways to give someone an idea of the uniqueness the city can spring upon you at any moment. Then I feed them beer at Novare Res. And cocktails at Sonny's, Then they might be hungry so I either offer them a snack from my purse or take them to Paciarino.
Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Anywhere with friends and adult beverages.
What's the most surprising thing about this city? The food.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Mulled wine at Sonny's during a snowy evening.
